Larry:
HI. I’M LARRY BRUMBAUGH. WELCOME TO TREE TALK. USUALLY WHEN YOU GET TO OLDER TREES, A LOT OF TIMES YOU’RE REMOVING DEAD, DYING, OR DISEASED LIMBS. ANOTHER REASON WHY YOU WANT TO TRIM OLDER TREES IS TO INCREASE LIGHT AND AIR PENETRATION THROUGH THE TREE, WHICH MAKES IT SAFER FOR THE FOR THE HIGH WINDS. ALSO MAKES IT HEALTHIER BECA– USE YOU NEED SOME SUNLIGHT THROUGH THE INTERIOR OF YOUR TREE. ANOTHER REASON WOULD BE FOR SAFETY. SAY THE TREE’S LEANING OVER TOWARD YOUR HO– USE OR TOUCHING ON THE ROOF, THAT WOULD THAT WOULD BE LIKE HAVING SOME CLEARANCE FROM YOUR PROPERTY. ALSO YOU KNOW, PEOPLE KIND OF WORRY ABOUT WHEN TO TRIM THAT KIND OF STUFF BUT MOST OF YOUR WEAK, DEAD, AND OR DISEASED LIMBS CAN BE CUT ANY TIME. MOST TREES YOU CAN TRIM YEAR ROUND. ALSO THERE’S FOUR DIFFERENT PRUNING TECHNIQUES THAT ARE ACTUALLY INVOLVED IN YOU KNOW, TREE TRIMMING. YOU HAVE CLEANING, YOU HAVE THINNING, RAISING THE CANOPY, AND THEN YOU HAVE HEIGHT REDUCTION, IT’S NOT THE SAME AS TOPPING, IT’S HEIGHT REDUCTION. WE DO LATERAL TRIMMING. YOU KNOW WE DON’T DO THAT VERY OFTEN BUT SOMETIMES TREES ARE YOU KNOW, TOO BIG AND IT COULD BE DANGEROUS, SO WE’LL DO A LITTLE HEIGHT REDUCTION SO THEY DON’T CATCH AS MUCH WIND AND THEY’RE NOT AS HEAVY AT THE TOP. THAT’S ALL FOR THIS WEEKS EDITION OF TREE TALK. UNTIL NEXT TIME, I’M LARRY BRUMBAUGH. THANKS FOR LISTENING.
