Larry:
WELL WHEN YOU’RE PLANNING NEW TREES, SPACING IS REALLY IMPORTANT. TO, I GUESS, SEE WHAT KINDA TREE YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO END UP WITH, YOU KNOW, TEN FIFTEEN YEARS DOWN THE ROAD. I WOULD SAY MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE IS WIDER SPACING BECAUSE YOU GET MORE, A MORE FULL CANOPY TREE. YOU KNOW, THE TREE CAN GROW TO BE LIKE IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE. WHEN YOU HAVE CLOSE SPACING, THEY CROWD EACH OTHER OUT. THE HAVE DIFFERENT LIMB STRUCTURE. THEY GROW MORE UPRIGHT THAN THEY DO OUTWARD. AND IF YOU DO LOSE ONE OF THE TREES AND YOU HAVE TO CUT IT OUT WELL THEN THE INSIDES OF THE OTHER TREES, THAT WERE FACING THAT TREE; THEY’RE ALL STUNTED. THERE’S HARDLY, THERE’S NOT MUCH LIMB GROWTH THERE OR YOU HAVE DEAD LIMBS THERE AND THE TREES NOT FILLED OUT ON THAT SIDE, SO THE TREE’S LOPSIDED, BASICALLY. BUT YOU DO GET DIFFERENT KINDS OF TREES. CLOSER SPACING GIVES YOU MORE OF A VERTICAL TREE. BIGGER SPACING GIVES YOU MORE OF A HORIZONTAL TREE, YOU’D GET MORE WIDTH. YOU GET A BETTER CANOPY. SO YOU’RE GOING TO GET MORE SHADE OUTTA THAT TREE IF YOU MOVE IT. IF YOU HAVE BIGGER SPACING YOU GET BETTER SHADE FROM THAT TREE THAN IF YOU PUT A CLUMP A BUNCH OF THEM TOGETHER.
