IT’S TIME FOR TREE TALK… YOUR WEEKLY NINETY SECONDS OF TOTALLY TREES RADIO PRESENTED BY BRUMBAUGH TREE SERVICE LLC.

Larry:

HI I’M LARRY BRUMBAUGH. WELCOME TO TREE TALK. THERE’S A FEW THINGS THAT YOU CAN LOOK FOR ON YOUR TREE TO SEE IF IT’S DISEASED OR UNDER STRESS. YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE SLOW GROWTH. YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE SIGNIFICANT TWIG AND BRANCH DIEBACK, THAT’S WHERE THE ENDS OF THE LIMBS DIEBACK TO THE NEXT LATERAL. YOU COULD HAVE SMALL LEAVES. YOU COULD HAVE SMALL NEEDLES ON A, YOU KNOW, PINE TREE. YOU’RE ALSO GOING TO HAVE PREMATURE FALLING OF THE LEAVES, THEY MIGHT FALL OFF. YOU MIGHT HAVE NEEDLES ON YOUR PINE FALL TOO EARLY IN THE SEASON. THERE’LL BE PRESCENCE OF A FUNGAL FRUITING STRUCTURE SUCH AS MUSHROOMS, KONKS AND SHELF LIKE STRUCTURES ON THE LIMBS, TRUNKS, ON THE BUTT OF THE TREE, AND ON THE ROOT FLARES. THIS IS NORMALLY THE LAST STEP OF A FAIRLY LONG PROCESS THAT RESULTS IN STRUCTURAL WEAKENING OF THE TREE. AFTER THE STRUCTURAL WEAKENING COMES THE DEGRADING OF THE WOOD AND INTERNAL DECAY. AND THEN WHEN YOU START GETTING THAT, THEN YOU GET TREES THAT FAIL, YOU HAVE LIMBS THAT FAIL BECA– USE THEY’RE DEAD AND THEY’RE WEAK. AND THAT’S JUST SOME OF THE SYMPTOMS YOU KNOW THAT YOU COULD BE LOOKING FOR AS A HOME OWNER. YOU KNOW, YOU START SEEING MUSHROOMS ON YOUR TREE, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. THAT’S IT FOR THIS WEEK’S EDITION OF TREE TALK. UNTIL NEXT TIME, I’M LARRY BRUMBAUGH, THANKS FOR LISTENING.
